Personal Project · Mobile UX · Two-Sided Marketplace Design

There's no one-stop solution for pet needs. PetMe is designed to be one.

Adoption listings live on one site, vaccinations get tracked nowhere but memory, and every groomer, vet, sitter, and pet business gets found by word of mouth and booked by phone. PetMe is a mobile app and two-sided marketplace that puts discovery, a full daily care schedule, a real profile per pet, and every provider a parent needs into one search and one calendar — with providers listed and bookable the way Airbnb lists and books a place to stay.

Personal project · Figma UI concept (2021) extended with a two-sided marketplace & monetization model (2026).

Who Two sides, one platform Pet parents adopting and caring for a pet, and the groomers, vets, sitters, and shelters they depend on — currently disconnected.
What One app, not a dozen systems Discovery, daily care, and every provider a pet parent needs, unified into a single two-sided marketplace.
Why Fragmentation has a cost A forgotten vaccination becomes a vet bill. A groomer nobody could find in time becomes a no-show.

What's broken today

Adoption is a scavenger hunt

Browsing dogs, cats, and rescues means checking a different site or shelter for each species, with no way to filter by breed or distance in one place.

Care lives in your head

Feeding times, walk schedules, vaccination dates — most of it is memory, a sticky note, or a reminder that never got set.

Providers are found by luck

A groomer, sitter, or vet clinic gets found through a phone book or an Instagram DM — never through a real search with location, date, and budget filters.

What's inside

What I designed

  • Species to specific pet, in one flowDogs → Beagles → "Tough, 1yr, available for free, 10km away" in three taps, not three websites.
  • A full day mapped, not a to-do listFeed, walk, meds, bath, and grooming each sit on an hourly timeline, so a gap in the day is visible, not forgotten.
  • A real profile, with a paid bioscheduleName, age, birthday, gender by default; a breed-specific feeding & care schedule as a paid unlock once a parent is invested in the profile.
  • Adoption becomes an ongoing relationship"My Buddies" keeps every adopted pet's posts and updates in view long after the swipe that found them.
  • Providers become bookable, not just listedOnboarding, a searchable profile, a request/accept booking flow, two-way reviews, and provider-set pricing — the marketplace half of the app.
  • Conversational search finds the right provider"Grooming within 5km, this weekend, under $60, here's my dog" — parsed into a ranked match, the way Apple/Google Maps handle a spoken query.

Two sides of one marketplace

Demand side

The Pet Parent

Goal
Book trustworthy care — right provider, right radius, right dates, right budget — without redoing the research every time.
Frustration
Juggles search engines, Instagram DMs, and phone calls per provider type; re-explains the pet's breed, allergies, and temperament to every new provider.
Gets from PetMe
One search across every provider type, a pet profile that travels with the booking, one calendar for every care task and appointment.
Supply side

The Care Provider

Goal
Fill the calendar with bookings without paying for ads on five different apps, and cut down on no-shows from clients who vanish after a DM.
Frustration
Relies on word-of-mouth and social media for new clients; takes a booking with zero context on the pet; rebuilds trust from zero every time.
Gets from PetMe
A discoverable profile matched by location, date, and budget; a booking calendar; the client's pet bioschedule delivered with every request.

Restaurants, retail, and pet events plug into the same app as a discovery layer — useful to parents, but not yet part of the booking-and-commission loop these two personas transact through.

The platform model: two-sided marketplace

Providers
(groomers, vets, sitters, boarders)
PetMe
search · booking · trust · commission
Pet parents
(demand)

The same network effect Airbnb runs on: more providers listed makes search results better, better results bring more parents to book, more bookings attract more providers.

How a provider gets listed & found

Provider onboarding

Applies as a provider: business name, service type (groomer / vet / sitter / boarder)
Verifies credentials: vet license, groomer certification, or sitter background check & insurance
Builds a service menu with fixed prices
Sets availability, service radius & blackout dates
Goes live in search, carrying a "New" badge until 3 completed bookings

What a parent can filter or ask for, on the other side of that same listing:

How a booking actually happens

Trust & reviews

Parent rates The provider

Punctuality, communication, whether the pet's bioschedule was actually followed, and would-book-again.

Provider rates The parent

Accuracy of the pet info provided, pickup/drop-off punctuality, and communication — a two-way loop, the same shape as Airbnb host ↔ guest reviews.

Both sides submit their rating before either one is revealed, so neither is written in retaliation for the other's.

Rating average, completed-booking count, and response rate feed directly into search and conversational-match ranking — the free ranking signal that sits alongside, not replaced by, paid featured placement.

Pricing

Providers set their own price per service — PetMe doesn't set rates, it takes a cut of them.

Service price$45.00
PetMe fee (12%)−$5.40
Provider payout$39.60

Sample journey

Pet parent — conversational search to booking

Opens PetMe
Asks: "grooming within 5km, this weekend, under $60, here's my dog's profile"
PetMe parses location, dates, budget & pet profile
Ranked provider matches returned
Compares 2–3 profiles, picks a slot & pays
Booking lands on the pet's care calendar
Service happens, parent rates the provider

How it monetizes

Core Booking commission

A 12% fee taken from the provider's payout on every completed grooming, vet, sitting, or boarding booking — no separate charge to the parent, the same take-rate mechanic that makes the Airbnb model work.

Content Paid bioschedules

Breed-specific feeding, care, and vaccination schedules are a paid download per pet; general breed grooming videos stay free.

Funnel Freemium content hook

Free general content builds habit and trust; the paid, personalized bioschedule is the upgrade moment once a parent is already invested in the pet's profile.

Not yet designed Featured provider placement

A standard lever for this model — providers pay to rank higher in search and conversational-match results — flagged as a logical next step, not a finished mechanic.

PetMe isn't just an app that helps you find a pet. It's the system — adoption, daily care, and every provider in between — that helps you keep it, all in one place.

What PetMe is built to enable

PetMe is a concept-stage design project, not a shipped product — there's no live traffic behind these numbers. What follows is the analytics PetMe's own dashboard is designed to produce once it is live, not measured results.
